I’m a huge Rammstein fan and honestly believe they’re easily among my top 5 of all time bands. I listened to the full album as soon as it came out, and it sounded... repetitive. Kinda missed something special about it. The songs sounded like someone trying to emulate Rammstein, but failing.

What’s interesting is that you can clearly see who does what best in Rammstein when you hear Till’s solo album and also Richard’s Emigrate (which is, so far, the best Rammstein member side project).

I read an interview with him once. And apparently he even did most of the creative work. He composed all the songs, they held meetings through Skype and Till basically showed up to sing and left.

Till apparently just gave ideas, tips and opinions about what was being created. But Peter didn’t seem butthurt at all, at least. Maybe that was the idea from the start.

Rammstein, AFAIK only records songs that the band unanimously agrees is a good song, that complies with Rammstein standards. And every creative work that isn’t good enough is welcome to be recorded by a side project. Which is pretty neat, because they hold Rammstein as the pinnacle of their creations.

So, from what I understood is that Till had some ideas but nowhere to put them, so he met with Tagtgren and they recorded the songs he had in his mind for a while.

Yeah, I don’t know if I like this much, but I appreciate the weirdness. And I like metal so I thought I’d at least give it a try.

It also got me on a Rammstein kick the other night. I hadn’t really listened to them since high school and college pt. 1 (2000-2004ish). I had forgotten how much I enjoy them.
